A Virtual Moroccan Adventure

.. Get active in April!

In October, after the UK Ultra Challenge Season has finished, we head to Morocco with 100+ adventurers to take on the annual ‘Saharan Challenge – with 2 marathon distances in 2 days down the spectacular Draa Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our April Virtual Challenge picks up the Saharan theme and a Moroccan adventure, with a route that starts at the ‘real challenge’s’ finish line amongst the dunes on the edge of the desert, and heads back along the double marathon course, and on north towards  Marrakesh and then Mount Toubkal – which is another fantastic Moroccan bucket list adventure.

There are 4 distance options – choose your Challenge – take it on anywhere throughout April by walking, jogging, or running – and let’s hope there’s a bit of Moroccan-like sun instead of showers! Log your distance on our ‘Virtual Map’ – and share your progress & stories online.

There’s a prize draw for all completing their Virtual Challenge – with an ‘actual’ place on our ‘real’ Saharan Challenge in October – with some real Moroccan sun!

How the 'Virtual' works...

Track your progress online

Once you’ve signed up to your chosen distance, you can either ‘link’ up to our Morocco Virtual Map with Strava (so your activities will then  automatically feed through to our online map) OR you can add activity distances manually (so each time it’s logged you’ will progress along the trail on the map – along with the other participants). You have all April to complete your challenge, and can join up to 15th April.

Walk, Jog, or Run – Anywhere, Anytime

84 km
Saharan Ultra

A double marathon – back along the ‘real’ Saharan Challenge course. Starting amongst the sand dunes on the edge of the desert it’s along the Draa Valley, with palm trees, Berber villages, and rugged mountain scenery to a finish line near the town of Zagora.

175 km
To Ouarzazate

A city south of the High Atlas mountains, known as a gateway to the Sahara Desert. Its huge Taourirt Kasbah, home to a 19th-century palace, has featured in many famous movies – including Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator, and Games of Thrones.

350 km
To Marrakesh

Marrakech is one of North Africa’s great historic cities – bustling with markets, souks, street food, snake charmers and red stone palaces on the edge of the baked Sahara Desert – but framed by the magnificent snow-capped High Atlas Mountains.

430 km
To Mount Toubkal

At 4,167m, Mount Toubkal is the highest peak in North Africa. It’s a non-technical summit, requiring only reasonable fitness & determination. It is easily reached from Marrakech – and makes for a fantastic 1 week adventure. Add it to your list of must-do’s!
